Gateway Logistics Services is a component of NASA's Artemis program, which seeks to put humans back on the Moon and develop sustained lunar exploration—a reference to the Dragon XL spacecraft in particular. A version of SpaceX's Dragon spaceship called Dragon XL is intended to carry supplies to the Lunar Gateway, a space station that will be used as a lunar mission staging area when it is built.

Dragon-XL is a non-reusable logistics craft to supply the planned Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway (LOP-G) station. NASA’s Artemis program will land astronauts on the Moon and reveal new knowledge about the Moon, Earth and our origins in the solar system. At the Moon, NASA and its partners will gain the experience necessary to mount a historic human mission to Mars. One logistics services delivery is anticipated for each crewed Artemis mission to Gateway. At the spaceship, NASA will gain and fine tune experiments to prepare for human missions to Mars in the coming years.
