National Advanced Optical System (NAOS) is military reconnaissance satellite.The high-resolution reconnaissance satellite, intended for both military and governmental use, will cover the entire world and have the capacity to take more than 100 pictures every day. Luxembourg hopes to become more involved in the defense activities of both Europe and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) by gathering data from the satellite.OHB Italia will build the 800 kilogram satellite. It will operate for a period of seven years.

The NAOS (National Advanced Optical System) observation satellite, equipped with a very high-resolution camera, will be placed at around 450km in a low polar orbit and will orbit the Earth 15 times a day, taking images of the whole Earth. The launch is scheduled between October 2024 and July 2025.
