In contrast to the previous Ariane-4 and Ariane-5 dual launch rockets, the purpose of the new Ariane-62 is to orbit a single cargo. It will have the capacity to transfer 5000 kg into a geostationary orbit. The two core stages of Ariane 6 are each equipped with hydrolox (liquid hydrogen-liquid oxygen) engines. While the second stage features a newly-designed Vinci engine, the first stage uses an upgraded Vulcain engine, which is currently utilized on the Ariane 5. Solid rocket boosters attached to the first stage-two or four P120s (Ariane 62 and Ariane 64 variants, respectively) that are larger than the P80s used on the Vega rocket provide the majority of the initial lift-off thrust.
