The Indian Space Research Organization designed the three-stage medium-lift Launch Vehicle Mark-3, or LVM3. In addition to being used to launch crewed missions as part of the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme, its primary purpose was to launch communication satellites into geostationary orbit. With two solid strap-on motors (S200), a liquid core stage (L110), and a high thrust cryogenic upper stage (C25), LVM3 is designed as a three-stage vehicle. With 204 tonnes of solid propellant, the S200 solid motor is one of the biggest solid boosters in the world. While the wholly indigenous high thrust cryogenic engine (CE20) is configured with a propellant loading of 115 tonnes for the liquid L110 stage, the C25 Cryogenic upper stage uses a twin liquid engine configuration.
