India's third generation launch vehicle is called the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). With liquid stages, it is the first launch vehicle from India. Following a successful initial launch in October 1994, PSLV became India's dependable and adaptable workhorse launch vehicle. The vehicle has launched multiple satellites for customers in India and outside. In addition, the vehicle was successful in launching two spacecraft that went on to visit the Moon and Mars, respectively: Chandrayaan-1 in 2008 and Mars Orbiter Spacecraft in 2013. MOM and Chandrayaan-1 were icing on the cake for PSLV. The PSLV-C48 launch is the platform's 50th launch. In addition, the vehicle effectively launched two spacecraft that went to the Moon and Mars, respectively, in 2008 and 2013 (Chandrayaan-1 in 2008 and Mars Orbiter Spacecraft in 2013).
