In 2012, Arianespace added Vega, a next-generation vehicle designed for carrying small- to medium-sized satellite payloads, to its lineup of commercial launchers. A European Space Agency (ESA) initiative, this four-stage rocket is designed to lift the increasing number of tiny scientific spacecraft and other lighter-weight payloads that are being developed or planned globally.
