The VPDHS from VECTRONIC Aerospace GmbH is a Payload Data Handling System that is designed especially for small satellite applications. This payload data handling system is based on an FPGA/Microcontroller Architecture and provides a storage capacity of 4 GBytes SDRAM and 16 GBytes non-volatile Flash memory. It also has optional data storage inside the internal non-volatile flash memory. The VPDHS supports the RS-422 interface to the onboard Attitude Control computer and multiple LVDS Interfaces to onboard devices. It features real-time compression of imager data and CCSDS formatting of transmitted data. The payload data handling system requires a supply voltage of 9-36 V and has a power consumption of up to 15 W. It has a radiation tolerance of more than 10 krad. The VPDHS has a mass of 2.3 Kg and measures 290 mm x 192 mm x 34 mm.
