Cartosat-1, also known as IRS-P5, is an advanced remote sensing satellite developed and operated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It was the first satellite in the Cartosat series and was specifically designed for stereo imaging, enabling the creation of three-dimensional maps. This is the first Indian remote sensing satellite that is capable of providing in-orbit stereo images. It was launched by ISRO on 5th May 2005 from SHAR Centre, Sriharikota, India. The mission was carried out in PSLV-C6 launch vehicle and has a mass of 1560 Kg. The cameras of this satellite have a resolution of 2.5 m (can distinguish a small car) and the images captured were used for cartographic applications.
