The Expedition 17 crew researched the behavioral effects of living long-term in space and how the central nervous system adapts to weightlessness. They crew also tested the ability to rapidly detect biological and chemical contamination onboard the station and photographed polar phenomena such as icebergs, auroras, and mesospheric clouds.
