ESRO 1, or ESRO I-A, was the first satellite launched by the European Space Research Organisation (ESRO), the predecessor to the European Space Agency (ESA). ESRO 1 was primarily a scientific mission aimed at studying the Earth's ionosphere and radiation belts. The satellite carried instruments to measure cosmic rays, solar X-rays, and radiation in Earth's magnetosphere.
