Chandrayaan I

Chandrayaan-I is the India's first moon mission that was was launched successfully on October 22, 2008 from SDSC SHAR Centre, Sriharikota, India. The spacecraft was orbiting around the Moon at a height of 100 Km from the lunar surface for chemical, mineralogical and photo-geologic mapping of the Moon. It was carried out in PSLV-XL launch vehicle and has a mass of 1380 Kg. The spacecraft has a mission life of 10 months and 6 days and carried 11 scientific instruments that were built in India, USA, UK, Germany, Sweden and Bulgaria.
The primary objective of Chandrayaan-I was to conduct detailed scientific studies such as mapping the lunar surface, studying the mineral composition, searching for water ice in the polar regions, and conducting experiments to better understand the Moon's geological history and evolution.
