IMS-1 (Indian Mini Satellite ) also referred as TWSat (Third World Satellite) is a low-cost microsatellite imaging satellite developed by ISRO. It was launched on 28 April 2008 from SHAR Centre, Sriharikota, India and has a mass of 83 Kg. This mission was carried out in PSLV-C9 launch vehicle and has a mission life of 2 years.
IIMS-1 was designed for multispectral Earth observation, with a focus on agricultural monitoring, forestry management, environmental assessment, and disaster management. The satellite's primary objective was to demonstrate India's capability to develop and operate miniaturized Earth observation satellites. IMS-1 was equipped with a multispectral camera capable of capturing images in multiple spectral bands, including visible, near-infrared, and shortwave infrared. The satellite's imaging capabilities allowed for monitoring land use, vegetation health, soil moisture, and other environmental parameters.
