Emcore Develops Military Standard Light Vehicle GPS Navigation Solution with Multiple Displays

Emcore, a provider of advanced mixed-signal products that serve the aerospace & defense, communications, and sensing markets, has developed TACNAV Light/GPS vehicle navigation system for military and defense applications. It is an accurate and affordable solution that delivers a powerful suite of features that brings a new level of flexibility, reliability, and performance to light vehicle navigation. TACNAV Light/GPS is equipped with an embedded GPS module that maintains 100% situational awareness which is vital to all military crews.

This navigation system has a newly redesigned compass sensor mast that includes an embedded GPS providing positioning accuracy within 5 meters CEP with valid GPS, and a dead reckoning accuracy of 2-3% for distance traveled without GPS.

It also combines emcore’s Moving Map Display (MMD) and the Universal Multilingual Display (UMD) that offers users the ability to create and store waypoints and routes with a simple touch of the screen and view vehicle travel in real-time, intuitive easy-to-read displays of heading, position, distance, and direction to a waypoint.

The rugged TACNAV Moving Map Display (MMD) also offers real-time moving map technology for KVH’s TACNAV family of tactical navigation systems. The MMD provides an easy-to-use graphical navigation capability for military vehicles by combining available internal or external GPS/GNSS with TACNAV’s inertial or compass-guided navigation solution. Developed for demanding battlefield conditions, the MMD’s touchscreen is viewable under all lighting conditions.

The robust tactical display technology integrated into this system is capable of presenting navigation and other critical information in multiple languages. With its versatility and affordability, the TACNAV UMD is ideal for any military vehicle requiring a user-friendly interface for its tactical navigation system.
