Kongsberg Satellite Services Collaborates with AWS to Enhance Space Capabilities

Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT), the global leader in satellite communications and data services, announced an expanded collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to further enhance solutions for space mission applications. This collaboration builds upon the strengths of two industry leaders and results in seamless access to KSAT’s global satellite ground station network and operations services, as well as AWS’s services and tools as the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud.

In this partnership, KSAT will expand its ability to serve mission users through the integration of AWS Ground Station capabilities into the company’s existing commercial offerings. This collaboration will help transform the satellite ground station industry, offering a differentiated level of integration and service, and enhancing KSAT’s capacity to deliver scalable, resilient, and high-quality services with even greater reach on a global scale.

As the space industry has evolved, customers have communicated the need for a simplified way to move data into the cloud, more advanced technology, and lower latency data delivery mechanisms. KSAT’s collaboration with AWS underscores its commitment to continually grow its satellite communications, data processing, and ground station network offerings worldwide. Leveraging AWS Ground Station, KSAT further increases its global ground network, which already offers a broad range of bandwidths and orbital regimes, improving direct-to-cloud connectivity and access to scalable, secure, and reliable AWS services and tools for space mission operators, all within a single interface.

KSAT will expand its service to new and existing commercial mission customers with rapid onboarding to the largest global satellite ground communication network through unified interfaces at scale. Customers will also benefit from KSAT’s leading satellite communication expertise, including 24x7 on-call support, as well as advanced services such as Launch and Early Orbit (LEOP) support.

"This expanded partnership with AWS shows continued focus within KSAT to lead the way in satellite communications and ground station services,” says KSAT CEO, Rolf Skatteboe. “By integrating AWS Ground Station with our own globally distributed infrastructure, we’re able to offer more connectivity, enhancing our unmatched customer support offerings, at scale. AWS is the leader in cloud enabled solutions for space missions, and bringing together our capabilities is powerful."

The scope and scale of KSAT’s network enables customers to take advantage of comprehensive service solutions. As a leading partner for AWS Ground Station, KSAT extends its scaled service offerings, including industry leading pricing options tailored to customer mission needs.

“KSAT has been a recognized leader in commercial ground station network offerings for decades,” says Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Clint Crosier, Director, AWS Aerospace and Satellite. “By deepening our work with KSAT, we combine the best of both organizations into a powerful and unique solution, marking not just a shift for our customers but for the industry at large. The full range of AWS capabilities, coupled with KSAT’s focus on commercial ground connectivity, provide space customers with enhanced resilience and innovation beyond what’s available today, driving both mission and business success. We are setting a new standard for the future of satellite communications and cloud integration.”

By combining KSAT's expertise in satellite ground solutions with the power of the AWS Cloud, this collaboration will pave the way for new opportunities in satellite data processing, low-latency data delivery, and mission operations.
