OQ Technology Expands Satellite 5G IoT to Critical Industries in Australia

OQ Technology, the Luxembourg-based leader in satellite 5G NTN IoT and D2D connectivity, announced its official launch into the Australian market and opening its Australian subsidiary “OQ Technology Australia” based in Sydney. With 10 satellites already launched into orbit, the company is delivering enterprise-grade, 3GPP-based satellite NB-IoT connectivity to some of Australia’s most critical sectors, including agriculture, mining, oil & gas, logistics, utilities, and emergency response. The company will also be a player in the Australian space ecosystem and assemble local business and engineering teams.

“Australia faces some of the most complex connectivity challenges in the world,” said Omar Qaise, Founder and CEO of OQ Technology. “With our constellation already operational and our 5NETSAT and MACSAT 2.0 D2D innovative missions, priority MSS S-band, paving the way for direct-to-mobile connectivity, OQ Technology is uniquely positioned to support Australia’s critical industries, communities, and government with resilient, future-proof communication solutions.”

In critical moments, connectivity is everything. Yet traditional cellular networks are not always available—particularly in Australia’s vast rural regions or during bushfires, floods, and infrastructure outages. OQ Technology provides reliable, standards-based 5G IoT connectivity that extends far beyond terrestrial coverage, ensuring businesses, governments, and communities remain connected when it matters most. Unlike other providers that rely on consumer SMS services or proprietary hardware, OQ Technology works seamlessly with existing NB-IoT chipsets. This approach reduces deployment costs by up to 80% and enables immediate integration into enterprise and government systems.

OQ Technology’s dual-use capabilities, serving both commercial and government applications, enable vital services across Australia, including bushfire and natural disaster monitoring and alerts, emergency communication and government broadcast services, pipeline and energy infrastructure monitoring, agroforestry and agricultural yield optimisation, remote mining and utility asset tracking, and maritime and defence asset monitoring. Aligned with the Australian LEOSat Working Group objectives, OQ Technology’s expansion supports national priorities for digital inclusion, First Nations connectivity, and robust emergency communications.

This announcement comes on the heels of OQ Technology launching its flagship 5NETSAT mission, backed by a €2.5 million EIC grant. As Europe’s first direct-to-mobile satellite network, 5NETSAT will deliver emergency alerts to unmodified smartphones, enable seamless use of standard 5G devices, and provide secure communications for both commercial and government needs.
