Gilmour Space to Support Starfish Space’s On-Orbit Docking Mission

Australian space company Gilmour Space Technologies has been selected as the docking partner for Starfish Space's Otter Pup 2 mission, highlighting Australia’s growing capability in advanced satellite and space operations. Otter Pup 2 was launched in June 2025 to demonstrate rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking technologies in orbit — key capabilities for the future of satellite servicing, debris removal, and sustainable space activities.

Following a series of successful rendezvous tests, Starfish Space has selected Gilmour Space to support the next phase of the program. The mission will see Otter Pup 2 perform rendezvous and proximity operations with Gilmour Space's ElaraSat MMS-1 satellite, ahead of a planned docking attempt in the coming months.

“Being selected as the docking partner for this mission is an exciting opportunity for Gilmour Space and a strong endorsement of the satellite capability we're developing here in Australia,” said Gilmour Space Head of Satellites, Mark Grimminck. “Docking and proximity operations are among the most technically challenging activities in spaceflight. These capabilities, and the services they enable, are becoming increasingly important as space-based infrastructure scales," said Starfish Space Co-Founder Trevor Bennett

“We’re proud to be working with Gilmour Space on the next phase of the Otter Pup 2 mission. Their growing satellite capability and operational approach made them a strong fit for this important demonstration, and they have proven to be great partners to date.” The collaboration supports Gilmour Space’s broader strategy to build Australian capability across launch, satellites, and advanced on-orbit operations. With the development of its Eris launch vehicle and operation of the Bowen Orbital Spaceport, the company is expanding its satellite programs for commercial and government customers. Participation in the Otter Pup 2 mission will also provide valuable operational experience and flight heritage for Gilmour Space's satellite and mission operations teams.
