SPACEBEL signed contractual agreements in Kinshasa with the DRC’s Ministry of Higher Education, Universities, Scientific Research and Innovation for the supply, commissioning, servicing and maintenance of an Earth observation satellite named RDC-SAT.
Thierry du Pré-Werson, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Eric Lardinois, CEO of SPACEBEL, welcomed this exciting news: “After several years of negotiations, SPACEBEL’s tender was selected on the basis of its very strong technical proposal and the company’s excellent reputation.”
With this satellite, largely of Belgian origin and named RDC-SAT in support of the National Centre for Remote Sensing (CNT), a public scientific and technological institution, the Democratic Republic of the Congo will be able to monitor its territory, borders and environment entirely independently. This 250 kg spacecraft will play an important role in the management of the country’s natural resources: agriculture, mining, forestry. It will also prove very useful in the fields of security and scientific research. Furthermore, the acquisition of this spacecraft will enable better monitoring of global warming, minimise the impact of natural disasters, and so on. From an economic and financial perspective, the DRC will be able to attract investment, which will lead to job creation and a significant contribution to the state budget.
Thierry du Pré-Werson, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Eric Lardinois, CEO of SPACEBEL, conclude, not without pride: “This successful export sale confirms SPACEBEL’s cross-cutting expertise spanning all levels of the space industry. At the same time, it is a testament to our expertise as a key player in both the institutional and commercial space markets."
