The SMTR2805D from Crane Aerospace & Electronics is a Radiation-Hardened DC-DC converter designed for high-reliability military and space applications. This converter efficiently converts a 28 V DC input to a regulated 5 V DC output, delivering up to 25 W of output power and output current of up to 5 A, with a low output ripple of 90 mV p-p.
Certified and qualified to MIL-PRF-38534, the SMTR2805D is available in a dual-output configuration, where the positive output is independently regulated and the negative output is cross-regulated using tightly coupled magnetics. It operates across the full military temperature range of –55°C to +125°C and achieves efficiency levels of up to 76%, making it suitable for demanding thermal environments.
This radiation-tolerant DC-DC converter demonstrates robust performance against space radiation, with Single Event Effects (SEE) LET tolerance up to 86 MeV·cm²/mg and Total Ionizing Dose (TID) resistance of 30 to 100 krad(Si), guaranteed per MIL-STD-883 methods. An integrated feed-forward compensation system ensures excellent dynamic response and audio frequency rejection, while the internal input filter minimizes the need for external filtering components.
Housed in a compact enclosure measuring 73.91 x 28.32 x 10.16 mm, the SMTR2805D is ideal for satellite power systems, avionics, defense electronics, and space missions requiring high radiation hardness, compact form factor, and long-term reliability.
