The ARES 1kN from SPACERACE is a Medium to Heavy Duty Non-Explosive Pin Puller Release Actuator that is ideal for deployable covers, satellite deployer doors, solar array HDRMs, antenna/boom HDRM, satellite separation mechanisms and small launcher stage separation. It features a 10 mm pin travel and can withstand user shear loads of up to 1000 N during actuation, making it suitable for securing and releasing critical payloads, antennas, solar arrays and other deployable structures.
Engineered for harsh space environments, the pin puller operates while maintaining a fast release time of less than 50 milliseconds under all operating conditions. The mechanism has a low mass of just 270 g and requires an actuation current starting from 4 A, enabling efficient integration into spacecraft systems with strict mass and power constraints. The unit is designed for reusability and testing, allowing users to reset the mechanism within minutes by replacing the initiator using the supplied tool.
It offers a projected operational life of up to 50 release cycles in accordance with ECSS-E-ST-33-01C requirements, supporting extensive qualification and ground-testing activities. To accommodate mission-specific requirements, the pin puller can be customized with user-defined thread configurations in the pin and custom interface hole patterns. The product is currently at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4, with additional qualification, interface drawings, CAD models and customization options available upon request from Space Race.
